Anna Hazare: Anti Corruption and..?

Anna Hazare: Anti Corruption and..?

What an overwhelming response to the Jan Lokpal Bill (anti corruption) movement/ satyagraha by mighty soul Anna Hazare. My head bows down with outmost respect for Anna Hazare for awakening million spirits to stand as one against corruption. One thing government did is to accept Anna’s proposal’s for Lokpal bill. Seems like Government did go to a panic mode once they realized how the whole movement spread like wildfire. I seriously doubt the integrity of present government in really accepting the proposals of Aann Hazare in the long run.

Corruption: Who is the culprit
Everyone in India, as we know, makes a fashion statement that almost all of our politicians are corrupt and the system is corrupted. The point I am trying to make here is who are these politicians? What makes a system? Who made them so called representatives to Assembly or Parliament? It is us PEOPLE.
When we as PEOPLE, misuse the power of VOTE and cast it on the basis of caste, creed, religion, money…we as people are nurturing this parasite called ‘corrupted politicians’. Why dig a hole (knowingly), fall into it and complain. Almost 40% of middle class and upper middle class people in India don’t even participate in voting. But the same people raise there voices against these so called ‘corrupted politicians’. Many a people say that we are forced to choose the best candidate among the two worst candidates contesting.

Possible Solution:
Let’s say we have an option of “No one to elect” on ballot paper and if the majority votes in a constituency are polled to this option of “No one to elect”, at least PEOPLE will have a voice to say that they are not interested in the contesting candidates. Now in this case, if there is no representative for the constituency, let the representative be Governor of the State for these “no one to elect” constituencies.
The true meaning of democracy is “for the people, by the people, to the people” … Then why are we forced to have to set of only candidates on the ballot paper. If everyone has a right to say in a democracy, we as PEOPLE, has the right to say “no one to elect too”…
Last but not least, in India if a MLA/MP resigns (for whatever reasons they have) before their term ends they shouldn’t be able to contest at least for the next 5 or so years. It’s the taxpayer’s money that is used to conduct elections.

Not just politicians, every citizen should be accountable to the country. The vendors who don’t pay their taxes, doctors or lawyers (those who don’t pay taxes), should also be accountable for their ill gotten money. Government should not only amend or propose bills but should also have independent citizen committees (not under bureaucracy) to overlook the implementation process.

Once again, my deep respects to Anna Hazare for igniting the fire in million spirits to see “Our India” progress..
